The Central government hikes the DA percentage of Dearness Allowance twice a year. There are two hikes of DA in a calendar year. The first is made on January 1 and the second is usually made on July 1 every year.

The Central Government first announces the hike in the Dearness Allowance. After that, the different states adopt this.

DA rates from Jan 2016 to till date as per the 7th central pay commission are mentioned below:-

The states like Haryana which have implemented the 7th pay commission in their state follow the same DA pattern as the central govt. On the other hand, the states who have not implemented the 7th pay commission in their state can follow the old DA rates.

After the implementation of the Seventh pay commission Dearness Allowance (DA)

    DA rates from Jan 2017 to till date (7th CPC)
  3. 01.01.2017=4%
  4. 01.07.2017=5%
  5. 01.01.2018 = 7%
  6. 01.07.2018 = 9%
  7. 01.01.2019 = 12%
  8. 01.07.2019 = 17% (Letter issued)
    DA Freeze due to COVID 19 The govt of India froze the DA to its employees because of bad financial conditions in COVID 19 Pandemic.
  9. 01.01.2020 = Additional 4% DA = 21%
  10. 01.07.2020 = DA Freeze
  11. 01.01.2021= DA Freeze
    The three installments of additional Dearness Allowance were revoked. The DA from 1.1.2020 to 30.6.2021 has been revoked. It has been added to the old rate of 17% DA. So, now the actual DA is 28%.
